Funding for Working Families 9 Months – 4 Years (Up to 30 Hours)
Over the next 3 months you and your partner (if you have one) must each expect to earn at least:
- £2,539.68 before tax if you’re aged 21 or over (equivalent to £195.36 per week)
- £2,080 before tax if you’re aged 18 to 20 (equivalent to £160 per week)
If you’re self-employed and started your business less than 12 months ago, you can earn less and still be eligible for funded childcare for working parents.
Please note the following deadlines:
- For a September funding start parents must apply for their code before 31st August.
- For a January funding start parents must apply for their code before 31st December.
- For an April funding start parents must apply for their code before 31st March.
Codes must be validated every three months to confirm eligibility.
If you or your partner has an expected adjusted net individual income over £100,000 in the current tax year, you
will not be eligible.

Working Families Funding Criteria
Free for 2 Funding (Up to 15 Hours)
Available from the term after your child turns 2 until they start universal funding for 3 & 4 year olds. Only available to those families who fulfil the criteria below:
- 2-year-olds can get funded early learning if you get any of the following benefits*:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Universal Credit, and your household income is £15,400 a year or less after tax, not including benefit payments
- The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- 2-year-olds can also get funded childcare if they:
- Are looked after by a local authority
- Have an EHCP
- Get Disability Living Allowance
- Have left care under an adoption order, special guardianship order or a child arrangements order
*Your benefits will not be affected if you take up the 15 hours early learning offer.
Eligibility criteria for parents receiving additional financial support
Universal Funding for 3 & 4 year olds (Up to 15 Hours)
If you are not eligible for the working parent offer you will still receive the 15 hour entitlement for all 3 and 4 year olds from the term after your child turns 3 until they start school, irrespective of your income level, benefit status, or family circumstances.
The setting will apply for this for you directly.
- For birthdays between 1st April and 31st August funding starts 1st Sept
- For birthdays between 1st Oct. and 31st December funding starts 1st Jan
- For birthdays between 1st Jan and 31st March funding starts 1st April
Fee Payer
If you aren’t entitled to funding, already use your full funded hours elsewhere or wish to use a combination of funding and fee paying, you are very welcome to join us as a fee-paying customer. Children can join Scalliwags any time after their 2nd birthday.
